Nuvolau Dolomites

The Nuvolau Dolomites is a mountain range in Italy, situated near the town of Cortina d’Ampezzo. Right at the summit stands the historic Rifugio Nuvolau. Established in 1883, it is the oldest mountain hut in the Dolomites, offering a 360° panorama of the Cinque Torri, Tofana di Rozes, Marmolada, Pelmo, and Civetta mountains.

During World War I the Nuvolau group was a strategic Italian military outpost in the conflict against Austro – Hungarian forces. Because of their tactical vantage point the primary Italian observation posts were located on Monte Nuvolau and Cinque Torri. Today, at the base of Cinque Torri, you will find one of the largest open air war museums (Museo all’aperto delle Cinque Torri), which features restored trench lines, command headquarters and artillery positions.

In the Nuvolau Dolomites, you will find short, beginner-friendly via ferrata routes that reward you with some of the most stunning landscapes the Dolomites have to offer.
